A Visit From A Creationist
So since I last posted I’ve had a mini explosion in hits……with none other than one of the creationists I mentioned posting in the comments! So anyway, during the exchange it became apparent that the account I gave of one of them was different to their recollection of events, which isn’t exactly surprising really. Even in mundane things peoples perspectives will skew what they recall so I’m not phased by that, or any of it really. But anyway, I was challenged on what I stated and it seems that the notes I had taken have become incomplete, so I can’t back up completely my stance, so it’s relegated to an anecdotal experience. However I am still certain of my recall, I wasn’t alone and the person that had gone along with me agreed with me when we discussed this at the time and they came to the same opinion. So I’m not going to retract what I said but I am posting that I can’t back up what I am saying with evidence, thus is the way of life some times…..and I do wonder if we will ever see any creationists or other peddlers of hokum saying the same?
Other things that have come out of the exchange is the allergation that using a ‘handle’ or nick name online is being cowardly, but nothing to back up that little jem. I’m not sure what this other persons experience is of the web but in the various circles I’ve floated around everyone has had the option of picking their username, be it something that is a random name they’ve picked or their own name. General netiquette is that you can pick how people refer to you, also skilled users of the web can spot someone that is using anonymity online to just simply have a username, to run around being the baitest troll on the web or something in between. There’s also been an inability to quote where i’ve said something so I tracked it down myself and I had said something that could have been interprited the way claimed but I had meant it to mean the persons actions.
One of the other interesting things is the challenge of getting published as delivered by one of the other commentors. My visitor agreed that this would be good but I wonder if they’ll do as the challenger suggested and let us know what publication they submit an article too. Because this could go down a number of ways, the most obvious two is that the article is presented and the authors are actually honest about being YECs….unfortunatly this will result in the paper being mocked and ignored or torn to shredds (maybe literally) as, lets face it, there is no evidence for a young earth. The other main alternative is that they hide their YEC colours and wriggle through peer review that way…..then they can dance around with their YEC buddies at how they got published. Hey ho, we’ll see how this one goes down!
